Volunteer Position Descriptions

Artist Hosts - This is your chance to get up close and personal with the Festival’s visual artists. Duties include staffing the artist hospitality lounge inside WSU’s State hall, which offers a quiet space and refreshments to participating artists. During the afternoon, hosts deliver refreshments directly to the artist booths and provide booth sitting service for artists that need to take a break.

Art a la Carte - This Sponsor/VIP Party takes place on the evening of Saturday, June 7th in a VIP tent near the Festival’s Main Stage. Volunteers are needed to assist with set-up and guest registration of this ticketed event. Attire is business casual, such as black dress pants or skirt and white shirt or blouse.

Beverage Sales - Did you always want to be a bartender? Here’s your chance at the Detroit Festival of the Arts! Extra special volunteers are needed to serve a full range of beverages during the Festival. All purchases are made with Festival food and beverage coupons. Volunteers must be 21 years of age, no eating or drinking is allowed in the Beverage Booth and booth managers will enforce these guidelines put forth by the Health Department.

CD Sales - Do you particularly enjoy the Festival’s performing artists? Then we need you to help with the sale of the performer’s CD’s.

Children’s Fair Activities - Here is your chance to play like a kid again! Positions range from assisting with hands-on activities to helping with the Youth Artists’ Market.

Festival Floater - This position is perfect if you can’t decide what you want to do…we decide for you! Floaters are used to fill positions where there are shortages, run errands and generally help where needed.

Festival Office - If you like to be in the hub of things, this is the place for you. Volunteers are needed throughout the weekend to answer phones, dispense information and assist with many general office tasks.

Information Booth - We need outgoing, friendly people who love to interact with the public. Volunteers assist the public by answering questions and giving directions. Volunteers should be familiar with the Festival area.

Merchandise Assistant - Here is your chance to ride on a golf cart and to assist with the delivery of festival merchandise to the sales booths. The ability to do some lifting is required.

Merchandise Sales - Join the “Super Sales Team” and sell colorful Festival souvenir merchandise at booths throughout the festival site.

Operations - If you’re the hands-on type, we can use your help with Festival Operations. Positions vary and include helping with set-up and tear down and on site deliveries. Lifting and moving are involved.

Volunteer Booth - Volunteer to assist other volunteers! Positions are available in the Volunteer Tent to help with check-in, distributing shirts, running errands, etc.

Street Painting Exhibition - Assist participating artists and with the program that lets the public try their hand at this ancient Italian style of chalk drawing on the streets.

Package/Coat Check Station - The festival offers a free package/coat check for our visitors, whether they want to check a coat or an art purchase.
